Puerto Rico has definitely been closely tied to Drum & Bass history since the mid and end of the 90's. The legend tells that companies like G-Force and Ha! Musik and DJ's like Gulembo and Dj Victor started doing small parties going on to creating more massive raves in El Barco,Las Cuevas,Rio Grande Plantation and even in the Aguadilla Airport and clubs like Wearhouse, The Gallery and others held a meeting place for supporters. The legend tells that one of the first Drum & Bass parties ever was promoted by Frank Mendez, Jorge Ramos,Chuck Maurice and the Eithad crew and they had Dj Tamber. Having the greatest dj's blasting the island with new music , the genre became a stronghold in electronic music circles and hangouts. People like Bryan Gee, Ed Rush & Optical, Dieselboy, Andy C, Stakka & Skynet, Noisia and many other big hitters of Drum & Bass have come over and over again to showcase their style of Drum & Bass. As more DJ's kept coming, a local movement of DJ's sprouted to represent the island : Dj Trixx, Glare, Codezero, Rapid,Su:Real, Alien, Slinky and Fission who was signed to Renegade Hardware. In the west side of the island there was a very good representation by Dj Xavier and Dj Ary who was one of the first DJ's on the island to use CDJ's, which while being questioned by the "scene" as to legimity then became the industry standard. The center of the island had Rival 2, which had a Live PA show.On an international level DJ CBX(Jonny Cruz) became a part of the group Identity which went on to have releases on major hard dnb labels. In presswork sites like Freuenciaelectronica.com and Noctambulo.com sprouted to report on tje events that were taking places and valuable information about DJ's and producers.Even in 2003, a track called "Puerto Rico" , came out in Ed Rush & Optical's album "The Original Doctor Shade". According to the legend Ed Rush & Optical fell in love with Puerto Rico's drums in Bomba, Plena and other afro-caribbean styles of music; which of they apparently actually even went on to sample live and use in their tunes. It is one of the theories as of why Puerto Ricans like Drum & Bass so much : the hard drum beats. Also in 2006 Noisia remixed Atom & Cell which came out on Darkitek Records and went on to become a huge track in Neuro Funk. Having a noticeable hiatus from big crowds in the mid 2000's , comparing to how big it was in the end of the 90's , Drum & Bass been experiencing a revival since 2009 in the island becoming stronger and stronger every year. Small companies like Dealers of Destruction, Korrosive Crew ,Disquera Virtual, Easey Package and bigger ones likes Amazed Productions have been bringing back the sound to local clubs and bigger venues. Amazed Productions also created the local festival brand name called "Glowstep" which is Drum & Bass and Dubstep orientated bringing names like Dirtyphonics, Messinian, Noisia etc. Dj's such as Lohi Stereo,Custom Soldierz, Atom, Havok, Grinsley, Semt3x, Ian Bazehead(Aeon) ,Velvet Effects have been hitting clubs hard with a sound loved by many in the island. In present day 2014, the year looks very promising with many acts to come to the island, plus the sprouting of a dnb monthly Martes de Galeria, and companies such as Beast Mode and Cycle there's nothing but going up!
